Paris 2024 Olympic Games a historic success on France Télévisions’ channels and platforms

France Télévisions, official broadcaster of the Olympic Games and a long-standing supporter of Olympism in France, would like to thank French viewers for watching the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on its channels and platforms. The group is proud to have shared all the magic of this unforgettable event with its exceptional coverage of the competition.

For these two weeks, France Télévisions has played a major role in this year’s Olympics, offering a new service on France 2, France 3 and its dedicated online channel france.tv PARIS 2024, providing the perfect stage for all the athletes, medal winners, and sporting events.

Fully committed since the adventure began back in 2019, the France Télévisions group helped with the run-up to this global event by producing news features and sports programmes. The group also created many special editions and Olympic exclusives, such a concert event one year prior to the Olympics broadcast live from the forecourt of Hôtel de Ville, a new programme Aux Jeux, citoyens! and coverage of the Olympic Torch’s arrival in Marseille.

 


With channels offering 50 hours of live viewing per day, France Télévisions was watched by almost 60 million French viewers.

Right on target for all audiences: 99% of 15 to 25-year-olds, Professionals, Women and Men watched the Olympic Games on France Télévisions.

The average French viewer watched more than 24 hours of Olympics coverage on the France Télévisions network.

 
Closing ceremony:
  • After seeing record audience numbers during the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony on Sunday 11 August attracted 17.1 million viewers, with a peak of 20.6 million viewers.

 



 

A cumulated audience share of 50.2% for channels in the France Télévisions network

France 2 was the number one French channel during the entire two weeks:

  • France 2: an average audience share of 32.3%. The channel was an audience leader across all demographics.

Spectacular audience numbers:

  • Peak of 15 million viewers during Léon Marchand’s 4th gold medal win.
  • Peak of 13.9 million viewers during swimmer Léon Marchand’s historical second gold medal win.
  • Peak of 13.2 million viewers for the French team’s victory in the judo event.
  • Peak of 11.8 million viewers for France’s gold medal win in Rugby Sevens.
  • Peak of 10.7 million viewers for the France v Spain men’s football final between.
  • Peak of 10.2 million viewers for the France v US men’s basketball final.

With more than 60 hours of programming, the surfing events were watched by 19.3 million people in mainland France and in overseas departments on the 1ère network (all segments and channels)

During these two weeks, news features performed particularly well, greatly contributing to the visibility of the events and the promotion of the athletes and medal winners: every day, 18 million viewers tuned in to the news updates on France 2, France 3 and franceinfo channel 27.


 

An Olympic record for France Télévisions’ digital offer:

  • france.tv racked up more than 200 million views over the course of the event.
  • 39 million views for the online channel “france.tv Paris 2024” throughout the Olympic Games and more than 11 million unique visitors
  • The live chat, FANZONE, welcomed more than more than 1 million participants over the course of the Olympic Games.
  • This July saw record numbers for the platform franceinfo: totalling 289M hits, France Télévisions’ cumulative news services recorded their best performance to date and took the number one spot this month.
  • 1 billion views for clips published on France Télévisions’ social media pages

 

After the success of the Olympic Games and the achievements of Team France, who brought home a total of 64 medals, France Télévisions is excited to kick off the Paralympic Games and keep the good times rolling!

France Télévisions’ coverage of the Paralympic Games, held from 28 August to 8 September, will offer live 24/7 viewing, allowing French viewers to not miss a single moment of the competitions.

With coverage relay between France 2 and France 3 and full event coverage on france.tv, France Télévisions is committed to promoting paralympic sport. This initiative will ensure continuity between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, allowing all French viewers to get the most out of these historical events.

Four thousand four hundred high-performance athletes will participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. With 22 sports, 23 disciplines, and 549 events, its looking to be a rich and diverse programme, held across 19 different venues.  Para-archery will be held at Les Invalides, blind football matches will take place at the Eiffel Tower, para-judo and wheelchair rugby will be held on the Champs-de-Mars, the Porte de la Chapelle Arena will be used for para-badminton and para-weightlifting, and the Château de Versailles will host the para-equestrian events.

This event will be a first for France and will be enjoyed all around the world for twelve days.
